Hot House Blues: Steve Freund @ Historic Empress Theatre | Steve Freund brings his great band to the Empress to help us celebrate the beginning of our third year of Wednesday Night Music programming. Steve is one of the finest Blues musicians you can find, and he's part of the Empress family.

Steve Freund
Guitarist, producer and bandleader Steve Freund, praised by Rolling Stone for his "masterful, no-nonsense guitar work,” offers a treasure of experience and advice to bluesmen as the Red House jam host.

Steve has appeared on 34 albums, and produced seven. Steve’s third studio album, Lonesome Flight, was released by 9 Below Productions in 2010 and included nine original songs along with four blues classics. He also played on Koko Taylor’s Grammy winning Blues Explosion.

Steve began his career in Chicago as a second guitar behind Hubert Sumlin, Lee Jackson, Homesick James, Louis Myers, and many others. He spent two years working with Big Walter Horton and Floyd Jones, learning the deep blues and the idiosyncrasies that are part of the art. In 1978, he became Sunnyland Slim's main guitarist, playing just about every gig with the piano legend until the time of his death. Freund became the consummate piano accompanist working with Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Walker, Henry Gray, Erwin Helfer, David Maxwell and many more.

He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the 90’s, and plays regularly at The Saloon in San Francisco, Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland, Armando's in martinez, and also tours nationally and internationally. He was good friends with the late great Johnny Nitro, who he succeeds as Red House’s chief bluesman.

Hot House Blues: Mark Hummel @ Historic Empress Theatre | Hot House Blues at the Empress Theatre featuring Mark Hummel. Mark is a Grammy Award winner of two Blues Music Awards this year. Mark Hummel started playing harmonica in 1970 & has gone on to become one of the premier blues harmonica players of his generation.

Grammy Award nominee Mark Hummel started playing harmonica in 1970 & has gone on to become one of the premier blues harmonica players of his generation. Thanks to over thirty recordings since 1985, including the Grammy nominated 2013 release Blind Pig recording "Remembering Little Walter", part of the Blues Harmonica Blowout cd series Hummel started in 1991. These events have featured every major legend (Mayall, Musslwhite, Cotton, etc.) on blues harp as well as almost every player of note on the instrument- a who's who of players.

Mark Hummel is a road warrior - a true Blues Survivor. Along the way, he has crafted his own trademark harmonica sound - a subtle combination of tone, phrasing and attack combined with a strong sense of swing. Mark has been with Electro Fi Records since 2000,releasing five CDs. Thanks to Mark's earlier albums, constant touring and appearances at the major blues festivals, he's firmly established his solid reputation around the US and Europe.

Hummel was born in New Haven, CT but raised in Los Angeles till he graduated high school. Mark moved to the Berkeley at age 18 to pursue a career in blues music, where he felt the music was taken more seriously.

Mark started the Blues Survivors in 1977 w/ Mississippi Johnny Waters. By 1984 Hummel began a life of non- stop touring of US, Canada & overseas, which he still continues at least 130-150 days out of each year. Hummel has toured or recorded with blues legends Charles Brown, Charlie Musselwhite, Lowell Fulson, Billy Boy Arnold, Carey Bell, Lazy Lester, Brownie McGhee, Eddie Taylor, Luther Tucker and Jimmy Rogers.

Hummel penned a memoir in 2012 for Mountain Top Publishing, "BIG ROAD BLUES: Twelve Bar On I-80", to which Huey Lewis says "This book should be required reading for ANY aspiring blues musician, LOVED it!" The memoir has been heralded in Blues Revue, Living Blues plus many blues publications coast to coast.

Los Lonely Boys @ Uptown Theatre | Fully reserved seating. Special Guest: Maxx Cabello Jr.

Hailing from San Angelo, TX, Los Lonely Boys are a sibling trio whose music draws equally from Rock, Blues, Tex-Mex, Conjunto, and Tejano.

Such a combination is shaped by the band’s three brothers: guitarist Henry Garza, bassist JoJo Garza, and drummer Ringo Garza, Jr. The siblings’ father, Ringo Garza, Sr., was a member of another sibling band, the Falcones, who played conjunto music around Texas during the ’70s and ’80s. After that group broke up, Garza went solo, backed by his three sons even before they reached their teens. The family relocated to Nashville in the 1990s, and gradually the sons emerged as a group separate from their father.

After moving back to Texas, the boys recorded their debut album, 2003′s Los Lonely Boys, at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales studio in Austin with Nelson sitting in. Epic Records picked the album up for major-label distribution in March 2004, resulting in a high chart placement for the album’s lead single, “Heaven,” as well as a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance the following year. The Boys released their eagerly awaited sophomore album, Sacred, in 2006, and Forgiven followed in 2008. A holiday album, Christmas Spirit, also appeared in 2008, and the band hit the road for an acoustic tour one year later, punctuated by the release of the covers-only 1969 EP. They released their last recording for Epic, Spirit of Christmas, in 2008.

Though touring nearly constantly, the trio has stayed deeply rooted to community causes. They recorded the single “Solid Ground,” about the Family Justice Center of Erie County (which won the Austin-based CTK Foundation’s Heart and Soul grant for 2009). The FJC provides services for victims of domestic violence. Written with poet Nancy Ghoston, “Solid Ground” was released in January of 2010.

During touring in the spring of 2010, JoJo Garza developed vocal problems. Physicians discovered lesions on his vocal cords and recommended that he rest them, causing the band to cancel its April and May appearances in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. This also pushed back the release of their debut independent offering, Keep on Giving: Acoustic Live!, their first release on the Lonelytone/Playing in Traffic imprints; the album was eventually issued in the fall of 2010. Los Lonely Boys returned with their first new studio offering of all original material in three years with 2011′s Rockpango (a made-up Spanish word that the band translates to English as “rock party”).

Frank Bey & Anthony Paule with The Lucky Losers, featuring Cathy Lemons & Phil Berkowitz @ City Winery Napa | Variations in Blue, from Swing to Soul: Frank Bey & Anthony Paule with The Lucky Losers, featuring Cathy Lemons & Phil Berkowitz

Frank Bey & Anthony Paule:The Bey Paule Band, eight pieces of soul-blues musical genius, has been mesmerizing West Coast audiences since 2011. Two CDs released in 2013, You Don’t Know Nothing and Soul For Your Blues, earned the band two Blues Music Award nominations, and a jaw dropping, show-stopping performance at the prestigious awards ceremony. All this well deserved attention paved the way for two International tours during the summer of 2014. Summer 2015 brings their third release on Blue Dot Records, Not Goin' Away, and another European tour, followed by the WOMAD festival in the Canary Islands. Frank Bey’s hypnotic vocals and Anthony Paule’s lofty guitar playing, keep their band on a shelf all by itself. However, if comparisons need to be made, they would be likened to Bobby Bland, B.B. King, Ray Charles, and Otis Redding.

Frank Bey has been performing most of his 67 years — singing gospel music as a kid, opening shows as a teenager for his friend Otis Redding, and recording CDs of his own in 1996 and 2007 — yet somehow his immense talents failed to register on most radar screens. Until NOW! Thanks to You Don’t Know Nothing, Bey is no longer one of the blues world’s best kept secrets. The album received extensive airplay and peaked at No. 11 on Living Blues magazine’s national radio chart.

Anthony Paule is an exceptionally skilled guitarist with credits that include Johnny Adams, Brenda Boykin, Earl King, Brownie McGhee, Maria Muldaur, Kim Nalley, Tommy Ridgley, and Boz Scaggs. He spent a dozen years as a member of the Johnny Nocturne Band and also toured with groups led by Muldaur, Scaggs, Mark Hummel, Charlie Musselwhite, and Mitch Woods.

Critics:

“Bey’s voice is one of the small wonders of modern soul-blues…He’s found his dream band in seven Bay Area musicians led by tasteful. intelligent guitarist and producer Anthony Paule.” Frank-John Hadley, Downbeat Magazine, January 2014“

Although he’s surrounded by such an array of talent here, Bey stands out as the focal point of the sessions, thanks largely to his masterful and often highly affecting vocals” Roger Gatchet, Living Blues Magazine, January 2014

“In a time when American Idol-type vocal gymnastics too often pass for soul, Frank Bey is a perfect reminder of what soul singing is really all about: Communication, warmth, and emotional sincerity.” Rick Estrin, Rick Estrin and the Nightcats

The Lucky Losers, featuring Cathy Lemons & Phil Berkowitz (Male/Female Duets)

Veteran blues vocalist Cathy Lemons (Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Lee Hooker, Anson Funderburgh) has teamed with harmonica master and vocalist Phil Berkowitz (Sean Carney, Billy Branch) to create a brand new group with an emphasis on the male/female duet. Their unique, modern approach to classic blues and R&B combines compelling originals with new takes on rarely recorded covers. Their outstanding new CD A Winning Hand produced by Kid Andersen at Greaseland Studios, includes guest artists Kid Andersen, Steve Freund, 2015 IBC Best Guitarist winner Ben Rice, and more. This auspicious debut is a winner that's poised to make its mark on the blues world at large.

CATHY LEMONS is a blues-singing legend who has performed regularly in the Bay Area for 25 years. She has been described as “the finest light-skinned female blues vocalist in the U.S.” (Real Blues) “with a velvety and hypnotic voice resonant of a female Howlin’ Wolf” (Fulltimeblues). Hailing from Dallas, Cathy honed her chops with Anson Funderburgh, performed with Stevie Ray Vaughan, and has worked with some of the greatest names in blues, including John Lee Hooker, Tommy Castro, and Ron Thompson. She has three CDs to her credit, two of which were released on the Vizz¬Tone label. Her latest, Black Crow, received national attention and was a DownBeat magazine “Winners' Pick.”

Critics:
"She's lived a hard life, and the singing on her first solo album in many years lends credence to the typically suspect supposition that misfortune is a prerequisite for creating superior blues.” Frank-John Hadley, Downbeat Magazine, July 2014

"Lemons belongs on the roster of great Lone Star State singers!” Grant Britt, Blues Music Magazine, August 2014

“Lemons is a tough, soulful vocalist bearing some similarities to Bonnie Raitt, but with a plucky strut and delivery that are both playful and powerful. When she lets loose on a slow blues, she builds an intensity and momentum that are as impressive as the female blues greats who have influenced her.” Hal Horowitz, All Music (November 2010)

PHIL BERKOWITZ is a charismatic San Francisco-based harmonica player and vocalist who has brought his unique, energetic musical style to audiences for over 17 years. He has mastered many different types of blues, a fact that's exemplified by his diverse repertoire. Phil’s last two CDs, Louis’ Blues and All Night Party, were met with high critical praise. He has toured, performed, and recorded with a variety of top blues and jazz musicians such as Danny Caron (Charles Brown's musical director), Duke Robillard, Sean Carney, and Billy Branch.Critics:"Berkowitz's singing is relaxed and unaffected, his harp tone resplendent, his phrasing inventive." Tom Hyslop, Blues Revue

“Consistently imaginative … an especially satisfying listening experience—what a wonderful way to end the party!” Lee Hildebrand, Living Blues, 2010

“The man knows how to place his voice exactly how it should be, where it should be. But it's on the harmonica that he's especially remarkable. His phrasing, sometimes delicate, sometimes strong, will catch the listener's attention, but his mastering of so many different tones is just as enjoyable.” Rene Malines, Virus de Blues

JOHN MAYALL with Brigitte DeMeyer @ City Winery Napa | 6:00 PM DOORS / 8:00 PM START

John Mayall was born on the 29th of November 1933 and grew up in a village not too far from Manchester, England. It was here as a teenager that he first became attracted to the jazz and blues 78s in his father's record collection. Initially it was all about guitarists such as Eddie Lang, Lonnie Johnson, Brownie McGhee, Josh White and Leadbelly. However once he heard the sounds of boogie woogie giants Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson and Meade Lux Lewis, his desire to play was all he could think of. At the age of 14 when he went to Manchester's Junior School of Art, he had access to a piano for the first time and he began to learn the basics of this exciting music. He also found time to continue learning the guitar and a couple of years later, the harmonica, inspired by Sonny Terry, Sonny Boy Williamson and Little Walter.

Lydia Pense & Cold Blood w/ Rick Stevens @ City Winery Napa | Lydia Pense & Cold Blood debuted when the Fillmore was at its peak as one of the nation's musical Meccas. Owner Bill Graham was so impressed with Lydia's voice and the sound of the band that he immediately signed Cold Blood to his new record label. During the span of six original late-60's, early-70's albums, Lydia Pense and Cold Blood helped, along with Tower Of Power, forge their own specific brand of funk/soul and R&B which came to be known as East Bay Grease. That music still holds up today, proving that great music is timeless and will continue to inspire generations to come.

The show will be opened by Rick Stevens former lead singer for Tower of Power, whose "You're Still a Young Man" was the band first hit single and to this day remains their "Signature" song. Anointed by the "Queen of Soul" herself, Aretha Franklin, as "One of the Great Soul singers of the his generation" Rick went on to have hits like "Down to the Nightclub", and "You've Got to Funkafize" for Tower. Rick Stevens is "Back on the Streets Again!"

Tommy Castro & The Painkillers LIVE @ The Uptown w/ Mark Karan & Shauna Marshall of Nuclear Blonde |

“I’m always moving forward, going outside of my wheelhouse, listening to new music and incorporating new ideas,” says award-winning guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Tommy Castro. “The contemporary blues scene is full of fresh, new sounds. It’s an exciting time.” Castro is famed for his signature brand of tough, rocking rhythm and blues and will be performing at Uptown Theatre Napa this summer on Friday, July 17th. Tommy will be sharing his turbo-charged Alligator Records album, The Devil You Know, where Castro strips his music down to its raw essence as he rockets into the next phase of his storied career.

Born in San Jose, California in 1955, Tommy Castro first picked up a guitar at age 10. He came under the spell of Eric Clapton, Elvin Bishop, Mike Bloomfield and other blues rock players early on. As he got older, Castro moved forward by investigating the past, falling in love with the blues guitar work of Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Freddie King, Buddy Guy, Elmore James and singers like Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett and James Brown. By his late 20s he was playing in a variety of San Francisco-area blues and soul bands.

Castro joined Warner Brothers artists The Dynatones in the late 1980s. The much-loved band had a huge fan base and toured the U.S. constantly. He honed his chops with the group on the road for two years, performing live all across the country and sharing stages with major artists like Carla Thomas and Albert King. He formed The Tommy Castro Band in 1991 and won the Bay Area Music Award for Best Club Band in both 1993 and 1994. With his local fan base quickly expanding, he released his debut album in 1996 on Blind Pig. The album won the 1997 Bay Area Music Award for Outstanding Blues Album, and Castro also took the award for Outstanding Blues Musician that same year. He began touring nationally, picking up new fans everywhere he went. After years of playing guitar-driven blues and R&B backed by a tight horn section, Castro introduced The Painkillers live in 2012, creating a lean, mean four-piece lineup, with the drum chair now held by David Tucker. Fueled by Tommy’s voice and guitar plus bass, drums and keyboards, the band released the 45rpm single Greedy. Greedy quickly became one of Castro’s most-requested songs. An attention-grabbing video for Greedy has already received over 150,000 views on YouTube. The Chicago Sun-Times calls his music “fiery and soul-drenched.”

Castro views the harder-edged sound of The Painkillers as a natural extension of the music he’s been making since he was a teenager. “The Painkillers really get me back to my roots. It feels to me a lot more like it did when I first started playing with my friends as a kid. Bands were always just three or four guys playing for the fun of it,” Castro recalls. Now, Tommy Castro And The Painkillers are pushing the music to another level.

Jonny Lang w/ Runaway Saints @ Uptown Theatre Napa | Sixteen years ago, at the age of 16, Jonny Lang found incredible success with the release of his major label debut album Lie To Me. Fame does not seem to have impacted him from being the same country farm boy from Fargo, ND who got his start in the local clubs of Minneapolis. He survived the passage of youth to adulthood, fell in love, began a family, and in the process passed through the life lessons we all endure. He has a keen sense of what he aims to achieve creatively, what music means to him, and is focused on the impact that his songs bring to the lives of those that encounter his repertoire. For Lang, with the release of Fight For My Soul, he is entering a chapter wherein he has found his true voice.

Al Stewart w/ Solid Air @ City Winery Napa | Glasgow native Al Stewart began his career playing guitar in Tony Blackburn’s band the Sabres, and moved from there to the London folk club scene. Year of the Cat (1976) spun off two Top 20 hits (the indelible title song and “On the Border”) en route to becoming a million-selling release itself. 1978’s Time Passages, repeated the success of its predecessor, selling a million copies and yielding the Top 10 title track and Top 30 single, “Song on the Radio”.

“This venerable singer/songwriter is still doing what he does best, and clearly his best is as good as ever.” – Miami Herald

Opener: Solid Air

Solid Air is a music group based north of San Francisco, led by co-founders Allegra Broughton (vocals, guitar), and Sam Page (vocals, bass, baritone slide guitar), native Californians who have been performing their blend of rootsy originals and eclectic covers together for over twenty years at fairs, festivals, clubs, concert stages and coffeehouses. They have eight albums, including the excellent CD Solid Air: Allegra Broughton & Sam Page, Jackalope Records (Aug. 2007); and a song on Nina Gerber’s 2007 CD, “Good Music with Good People”. The Milk Carton Kids @ Uptown Theatre | Grammy-nominated harmony duo The Milk Carton Kids have announced the May 19, 2015 release of their third album, Monterey. A refreshing alternative to the foot-stomping grandeur of the so-called “folk revival,” an understated virtuosity defines The Milk Carton Kids and their new album.

The two years since the release of their last album, The Ash & Clay, have been significant ones for the group. In addition to a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album, The Milk Carton Kids won Duo/Group of the Year at the Americana Music Awards in 2014. Their featured performances and interviews in T Bone Burnett & the Coen Brothers’ concert documentary, “Another Day/Another Time,” brought the band its widest audience and their 55-city North American tour last year sold out months in advance. Cultural purveyors from Garrison Keillor to T Bone Burnett to Billy Bragg have hailed the duo’s importance among a group of new folk bands, both expanding and contradicting the rich tradition that precedes them. Yet while some of the band’s many accolades reference a specific genre, the duo quickly transcends those tags with clear inflections of jazz, classical, even the dark lyricism of modern “alternative.

”This past year, The Milk Carton Kids were asked to pay tribute to Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris — Cash on the Joe Henry-produced remake of “Bitter Tears,” and Harris with their standing ovation performance at the tribute concert “The Life & Songs of Emmylou Harris,” among luminaries including Kris Kristofferson, Mavis Staples, Alison Kraus, Iron & Wine, and Harris herself. If Cash and Harris taught us that American music is meant to be taken at its expansive word, without confines or borders, The Milk Carton Kids appear to have taken the lesson to heart.

Chris Isaak @ Uptown Theatre Napa | Yes, after more than a quarter of a century into his career, Chris Isaak has finally created the album he’s always wanted to make. Beyond the Sun, Isaak’s first Vanguard Records release out Oct. 18 —is truly a labor of love. As a child spinning his parents 45s in their Stockton, California home, this deeply committed artist has been obsessed with the glory days of Memphis’ Sun Studio and the visionary artists who got their starts there—including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis—all of them discovered and nurtured by the late, great Sun Records founder Sam Phillips. Now, at long last, Isaak has acted on this lifelong obsession, magically recapturing the transformative hepcat brilliance of the classic sides cut by these greats at Sun with Phillips during the mid-’50s, while also getting down to the heart and soul of his own deeply rooted musical identity. Beyond the Sun will be available in both the 14-song standard set as well as a double album version that includes an additional 11 tracks.

“I did this because I love this music—that’s the entire reason,” Isaak explains, advising, “you gotta listen to the original ones—they’re classics – they’re awesome but you can have fun with them. These guys discovered this music for us and we had to rediscover it. There’s no way to do it exactly like they did it, so you’ve gotta give a little bit of your own take on it.”

Considering how unmistakably Isaak’s own music has been inspired by that of the Sun greats, particularly Presley and Orbison, the obvious question is, what took him so long? “When I started making music, I thought that if I do those songs, where do I go from there?” he says. “I wanted to make sure I found my own sound and established who I was. But I always loved that music and I wrote songs in that spirit. You can go through all my songs and you won’t find one reference to goin’ to the bop. They’re about my life, not about nostalgia for the ’50s. I came to a point where I felt like the time was right to do this record. I’d met all my heroes and worked with most of them, and I didn’t hear anybody else doing it the way I wanted to do it.”

Isaak is joined on the record by his longtime band—bass player Rowland Salley and drummer Kenney Dale Johnson, who’ve been with him from the start, guitarist Hershel Yatovitz, pianist Scott Plunkett, and percussionist Rafael Padilla—and it turns out every one of these skilled musicians shares Chris’ passion for the Sun sound, along with a rarified feel for playing it.

“There’s just something about my band that was really right for it, because they all love that kind of music”Isaak points out. “I’ll tell you somethin’: everybody thinks early country is easy to play. It’s not easy. It’s just as hard to play as, like, abstract jazz fusion or anything else. It’s got a feel, and if you get the feel wrong, everything’s wrong. And I don’t think you could find a better rhythm section than mine for playing this music anywhere. Kenney is the shuffle king. And on top of that, Scotty, my piano player, just nailed this stuff. I really don’t think there’s anybody who could play it any better.”

Uptown Theatre is excited to welcome this veteran Uptown performer again on August 8th for what will surely be another exciting event from Chris Issak.

War at Uptown Theatre |

One of the most popular funk groups of the '70s, WAR were also one of the most eclectic, freely melding soul, Latin, jazz, blues, reggae, and rock influences into an effortlessly funky whole.

The group was created in the late-1960s by Goldstein and British singer Eric Burdon, who was then living in Los Angeles and eager to seek out new collaborators after several years with The Animals. In the future members of the band that would be known as WAR, Burdon found musicians who were able to back his improvisational flights-offancy with the ease of jazz masters, and, as such, the albums Eric Burdon Declares WAR and The Black-Man’s Burdon soon became cultural touchstones of the ’60s. After Burdon moved away from the group, WAR’s career skyrocketed in the early ’70s, as their exhilarating sound spoke to millions of Americans about the troubled times of Vietnam, Watergate, racial strife, and the tensions of the inner cities. “The diversity of influences on us was not only musical but was social as well. As a result we tried to be entertaining while also spreading the word of peace, harmony and brotherhood,” says singer-keyboardist Lonnie Jordan, who has been there since the group’s inception. “Our instruments and voices became our weapons of choice and the songs our ammunition. We spoke out against racism, hunger, gangs, crimes and turf wars, as we embraced all people with hope and the spirit of brotherhood”.

WAR would one night find themselves mingling with Hollywood luminaries, sports legends and show business millionaires, and next see themselves back in their warehouse rehearsal spaces, playing till dawn for their pals in the ‘hood. WAR is a band that spans social classes, races, and causes. THE VERY BEST OF WAR traces this revolutionary band’s free-form beginnings on into their journey through cultural shifts in taste and styles. Two full CDs worth of hits that still sound as fresh as the day they were recorded.

While currently touring the world this year, WAR will once again enter the studio to do what they do best: Make Music. After thirty years of pushing the harmonic envelope, the band’s twenty-fourth album release can be expected sometime in the not too distant future!!

Dave Mason’s Traffic Jam @ Uptown Theatre Napa | Join Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and co-founder of the legendary band Traffic, Dave Mason for an evening of music history as he retraces the earliest days of his career with Traffic and the works that launched his successful solo career.

Mason founded Traffic with Steve Winwood while both were still teenagers, and created music that would find its’ way into the hearts of generations of music lovers. He would go on to establish himself as a successful songwriter, guitarist and solo artist.

At age 18, the Worcester England native teamed up with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood to form the legendary band Traffic, who had a profound affect on the genre of rock and roll.

While still a teen Mason penned the Traffic hit “Feelin’ Alright”. The song became a global rock anthem and has been recorded by dozens of artists (including Joe Cocker who had a huge international hit with the song), “Feeling Alright” remains a highlight of Mason’s live shows today.

After extensive touring with Traffic throughout the UK and Europe, Mason headed for the USA to pursue a solo career. He struck international gold with his debut album “Alone Together”, which is considered a seminal rock classic. It’s known for the marbleize vinyl, vertical gatefold packaging, the hits “Only You Know And I Know”, “World In Changes”, “Shouldn’t Have Took More Than you Gave” and more. The album has sold millions of copies.

Five highly successful albums for the CBS/Sony label followed, four of which received gold album certification in the US. His next album Let It Flow sold millions of copies and contains another major Mason classic “We Just Disagree”.

In addition to performing to sold-out audiences and being a permanent staple in record collections and hearts of fans around the world, Mason’s unique guitar work can be heard on many landmark albums and songs such as the Rolling Stones’ Beggar’s Banquet, George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass, Paul McCartney’s Listen To What The Man Said and Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland. Hendrix’s major rock standard “All Along The Watchtower” features Dave playing the acoustic guitars before Hendrix’s soaring entrance onto the track.

The song is a big favorite of Dave’s and he performs it in nearly every on of his live shows. Dave Mason’s work and career remain linked with numerous other members of rock and roll elite, including Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Rita Coolidge, Delaney & Bonnie, Leon Russell, Ron Wood, Jim Capaldi, Mama Cass Elliot, and The Spencer Davis Group.

Dave Mason’s career spans several important rock eras, and encompasses his work as a producer, performer, songwriter, and consummate guitarist. In 2004, Mason was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his work with the groundbreaking group Traffic.

Ukulele Virtuoso - Jake Shimabukuro @ Uptown Theatre Napa | In his young career, ukulele wizard Jake Shimabukuro has already redefined a heretofore under-the-radar instrument, been declared a musical “hero” by Rolling Stone, won accolades from the disparate likes of Eddie Vedder, Perez Hilton and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, wowed audiences on TV (Jimmy Kimmel, Conan), earned comparisons to Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis, and even played in front of the Queen of England.

With his new record Grand Ukulele, Shimabukuro’s star may burn even brighter. An ambitious follow-up to 2011’s Peace, Love, Ukulele (which debuted at #1 on the Billboard World Charts), the Hawaiian musician’s new record finds him collaborating with legendary producer/engineer Alan Parsons, best known for his work on Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, The Beatles’ Abbey Road and his own highly successful solo project. “It was very organic how it happened,” says Shimabukuro (she-ma-boo-koo-row). “He attended a couple of my shows near where he lives in Santa Barbara and the concert promoter put us in touch. I was stunned. I mean, THE Alan Parsons? We ended up having dinner before the show and he casually mentioned the idea of possibly working together on a project. It was a priceless opportunity I didn’t want to pass up – he’s a genius.”

“Jake is taking the instrument to a place that I can’t see anybody else catching up with.” – Eddie Vedder

Parsons ended up helping Shimabukuro expand his sound, bringing in a 29-piece orchestra and a big-name rhythm section, including drummer Simon Phillips (The Who, Toto), session superstar bassist Randy Tico and Kip Winger (Winger, Alice Cooper), who helped with the orchestration.

Justin Diaz @ Uva Trattoria | From his earliest years, Justin sang along, and it quickly became evident that he had a big voice and a keen musical ear. His musical reach expanded to the trumpet, drums, piano, ukulele and guitar, and by his teens he was writing and composing his own music. His smooth vocals made him a local favorite, destined to be the next American Idol sweetheart, but fame wasn't what he was after.

At 18, Justin pursued the deeper things in life, and moved to Japan and the UK to study. Upon graduation, he traveled extensively, and by age 24, Justin had visited 50+ countries and 49 states in his own way: slowly and curiously, staying in the homes of strangers that were destined to become good friends, savoring sunsets, and sharing truthful conversations over good wine.

In 2014, Justin returned to the Napa Valley to share his talents and stories. He currently performs on a variety of stages - from lounges, wineries and breweries, to weddings and dementia wards - and serves as a music therapist for the elderly. Justin also continues to travel widely as he pursues simplicity and substance through the medium of music.

HIS SOULFUL VOCALS BREATHE LIFE INTO DECADES OF CLASSICS AND ORIGINALS, AND BRINGS CLASS AND WHIMSY TO LOUNGES, TASTING ROOMS, WEDDINGS, AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN

The Beach Boys (Sold Out) | You can capsulize most pop music acts by reciting how many hits they’ve had and how many millions of albums they’ve sold. But these conventional measurements fall short when you’re assessing the impact of The Beach Boys. To be sure, this band has birthed a torrent of hit singles and sold albums by the tens of millions. But its greater significance lies in the fact that it changed the musical landscape so profoundly that every pop act since has been in its debt.

The Beach Boys are led by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, who along with Jeffrey Foskett, Brian Eichenburger, Tim Bonhomme, John Cowsill and Scott Totten continue the legacy of the iconic American band. This tour will not feature Brian Wilson, Al Jardine or David Marks.

Happily for us all, The Beach Boys continue to create and perform with the same bold imagination and style that marked their explosive debut over 50 years ago. And now in 2013, their Capitol Records release, Sounds of Summer (RIAA certified triple platinum with over three million in sales and climbing), and it’s companion The Warmth of the Sun marks a resurgence in Beach Boys interest that has again rocked the world.

Captained by Mike Love, The Beach Boys play an astoundingly busy schedule of concerts, averaging 150 shows a year, ranging from sundrenched summer festivals to gala New Year’s celebrations and special events worldwide. In 1974 Mike Love’s concept album Endless Summer ignited a second generation of Beach Boys fans and stirred a tempest that rocked the music world.

Grammy-winning songwriter Bruce Johnston, [Barry Manilow’s “I Write the Songs”], joined The Beach Boys in 1965, replacing Glenn Campbell, who filled-in for Brian Wilson, on vocals/bass, when he retired from touring. Highly regarded as a singer-songwriter, Johnston’s vocal work with such legendary artists as Elton John and Pink Floyd firmly established him among rock’s elite artists.Had this remarkable band been less committed to its art and its fans, it could have retired from the field with honor at dozens of points along the way, confident that it had made a lasting contribution to world culture. It could have rested on the success of the epoch-shifting Pet Sounds masterpiece in 1966 . . . or after recording Love’s co-written Golden Globe nominated “Kokomo” in 1988 and seeing it become its best selling single ever . . . or after being inducted that same year into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame . . . or after watching its worldwide album sales blow past l00 million . . . or after winning the NARAS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 [along with The Who, Bob Marley, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr. and Les Paul]. And still, The Beach Boys continue to have fun, fun, fun, with no end in sight.

In 2012, The Beach Boys scheduled a 74 concert date limited 50th Anniversary Reunion Tour which was scheduled as a limited run reunion tour and ended in the U.S. July 15 and internationally on Sept 28th in which the original members reunited and released “That’s Why God Made the Radio,” the album debuted at # 3 on the Billboard charts, their highest chart position in 37 years and an unprecedented milestone.

Charlie Musselwhite & North Mississippi Allstars | With an induction into the Blues Music Hall of Fame, 35 Blues Music Awards and 11 Grammy nominations including a win in 2014, American electric blues harmonica player and bandleader Charlie Musselwhite has truly earned legendary status as one of blues music¹s most important artists. One of the non-black bluesmen who came to prominence in the early 1960s, Musselwhite was reportedly the inspiration for Dan Aykroyd’s character in The Blues Brothers. He was born in Mississippi but spent his formative years in Memphis, TN during the period when rockabilly, western swing, electric blues and other forms of African American music were combining to give birth to rock and roll.

North Mississippi Allstars formed in 1996; the product of a special time for modern Mississippi country blues. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson soaked up the music of their father, Memphis legend Jim Dickinson, and absorbed the North Mississippi legacy while playing in juke joints and pioneering their own brand of blues-infused rock and roll.

The North Mississippi Allstars released their debut album, Shake Hands With Shorty, in the spring of 2000. Their debut proved to be a success and earned them a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Contemporary Blues Album’. After earning 2 more Grammy nominations in the same category for 51 Phantom (2001) and Electric Blue Watermelon (2005), the North Mississippi Allstars earned the reputation as one of the most intriguing acts to emerge from the loam of Southern blues and roots rock.

In 2013 the North Mississippi Allstars released their new career-defining record World Boogie Is Coming. The album marked a return to the band’s blues-infused rock & roll roots and pays homage to hill country legends and songwriters like RL Burnside and Junior Kimbrough. Produced at their own Zebra Ranch Studios in Hernando, MS and featuring special guest appearances by Robert Plant, Duwayne and Garry Burnside, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Sharde Thomas, Chris Chew, Steve Selvidge, Lightnin’ Malcolm and others, World Boogie Is Coming is the record that perfectly ties it all together, fusing all the elements that have made the Allstars special while pushing the band’s sound further into the future than ever before.

INDIGO GIRLS w/ Lucy Wainwright Roche @ Uptown Theatre (SOLD OUT) | This Show is Currently Sold Out. Please Call 707-259-0123 for Waiting List

Indigo Girls Recording Career includes fourteen studio records, three live records and three greatest hits compilations:
- seven gold records
- four reaching platinum
- one reaching double platinum
-cumulative sales in excess of 12 million records
- seven Grammy nominations, one win

Amy Ray and Emily Saliers are Indigo Girls. Rolling Stone describes them as the “ideal duet partners. Their voices soar and swoop as one, alternately raucous and soothing. When they sing together, they radiate a sense of shared purpose that adds muscle to their lanky, deeply felt folk-tinged pop songs”. Together they write, arrange, record and perform music which over the course of twenty five years has become a vital part of the lives of their legion of devoted fans around the world, informing and rewarding them day to day.

With twelve original studio albums, three live records, various Greatest Hits compilations, a Rarities and a Christmas record to their credit, the iconic duo continues to challenge itself creatively, over and over again, adding to a body of work that contains such contemporary classic songs as Galileo, Shame on You, Closer To Fine, Kid Fears, Love of Our Lives, Making Promises, Get out the Map, Moment of Forgiveness, Least Complicated and Go. After numerous Grammy nominations and awards and gold and platinum certifications and decades of touring in clubs, arenas and everything in between, Indigo Girls remain active and relevant, always viewing their music as a fresh opportunity for exploration and discovery. “We really work hard to not lean on any tried and true path in making our albums,” says Ray. “So when it comes to writing new songs and working and performing with different musicians, every record and every tour feels like a completely different adventure for us.”

Decades into their career, the Indigo Girls still amaze conventional pundits with their ability to grow and thrive no matter what the state of the music industry is at any given point. The duo’s constant touring, as well as staunch dedication to a number of social and environmental causes, has earned them a fervidly devoted following over the years. So many artists who launched their careers in the late 1980s have slipped from our collective memory. In contrast, the Indigo Girls stand tall, having earned the lasting respect and devotion of a multi-generational audience which continues to experience their creative evolution in the studio and on stage. The adventure may take the form of an adrenaline-fueled live CD or a warm reflective holiday album or a collection of songs that can veer from the raucous to intimate in the blink of an eye. No matter where their creative journey takes them, they hold out a hand to their listeners and we get to feel it all.

They’ve recently released a new album: One Lost Day. 2nd. Vast in its reach, but unified by the traveler’s sense of wonder, gratitude, and empathy, One Lost Day moves like a centrifuge, pulling the listener close to linger in the small moment, then casting out onto sonic currents. This is music of the past, present, and future — a boundlessness earned and not bestowed. One Lost Day has a feeling of music composed across time, not just in time. These songs are rooted in tradition and inventive, too: nourished in dark soils, leafing and luminous.

Keb’ Mo’ **Sold Out** @Uptown Theatre Napa | Sold Out – Call Box Office for Waiting List 707-259-0123Over the past two decades Keb’ Mo’ has cultivated a reputation as a modern master of American roots music through the understated excellence of his live and studio performances. His songs have been recorded by B.B. King, Buddy Guy, the Dixie Chicks, Joe Cocker and Robert Palmer, and his playing inspired leading instrument maker Gibson Brands to issue the Keb’ Mo’ Signature Bluesmaster acoustic guitar. He’s collaborated with a host of other artists including Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown, Cassandra Wilson, Buddy Guy, Amy Grant, Solomon Burke and Little Milton.

The three-time Grammy winner and visionary roots-music storyteller embarks on a new chapter in his career with the April 22 release of BLUESAmericana on Kind of Blue Music. His twelfth full-length album marks the 20th anniversary of his debut ‘Keb’ Mo’,’ but, more important, the disc is a signpost of artistic and personal growth. At its core, the album is about love and understanding. Those qualities are expressed in some of the most poignant and joyfully melodic numbers Keb’ has ever recorded. Many of them, including the pledge of commitment “Do It Right” and the reflective “For Better Or Worse,” assay devotion and marriage. The thorny, comic “The Worst is Yet To Come” is about hope, despite the hilarious laundry list of pitfalls its protagonist endures as he searches for a silver lining. And “Somebody Hurt You” is, in Keb’s words, “where the blues meets the church.” That number features Rip Patton, a longtime friend and Civil Rights era Freedom Rider, on beatific bass vocals

.“I only make albums when I’m inspired to, and these 10 songs come from a very honest place,” Keb’ relates. “BLUESAmericana is the beginning of the next phase of who I am.”

An Acoustic Evening with John Hiatt @ Uptown Theatre Napa | With Special Guest Rick Brantley

Known by the Los Angels Times as “…one of rock’s most astute singer-songwriters of the last 40 years,” John Hiatt is master lyricist and satirical storyteller, weaving hidden plot twists into fictional tales ranging in topics including redemption, relationships, growing older and surrendering, on his terms. Hiatt’s songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt (“Thing Called Love”), Emmylou Harris, Iggy Pop, Rosanne Cash (#1 country hit, “The Way We Make A Broken Heart”), the Jeff Healey Band (“Angel Eyes”), and even the cartoon bear band of Disney’s film, The Country Bears. He earned a Grammy nomination for Crossing Muddy Waters, while B.B. King and Eric Clapton shared a Grammy for their album Riding With The King, the title track from which was a Hiatt composition. Hiatt has received his own star on Nashville’s Walk of Fame, the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting, has been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and was saluted at the Indiana Governor’s Arts Awards.

The rock-country-blues fusion album Bring The Family – performed with Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe, and Jim Keltner – was Hiatt’s first charted effort, and he was subsequently named Best Male Vocalist in Rolling Stone’s annual Critics Poll. In the last few years Hiatt has released Same Old Man, The Open Road, Dirty Jeans & Mudslide Hymns and Mystic Pinball all to critical acclaim as All Music Guide declares “And for a guy who has cranked out four studio albums in five years, Hiatt is having a great run as a songwriter…”

Hiatt has recently released his new album, Terms Of My Surrender, via New West Records. The new record is musically rooted in acoustic blues, accentuated by Hiatt’s soulful, gritty voice, which mirrors the gravity of his reflective lyrics. The album was recorded off the floor as if in a live setting, which was fitting since the band in the studio was Hiatt’s exceptional touring band (Lancio, Nathan Gehri, Kenneth Blevins, and Brandon Young).

Franc D' Ambrosio @ Silo's | Some performers are meant to be on stage. They may be incandescent on the screen or inspirational in a studio, but it is on stage, in relationship with a live audience, where they shine. On tour an average of ten months out of each year, D'Ambrosio has been criss-crossing the country for the last several years with either his Hollywood or Broadway show - each a tuneful celebration of an industry in which he's had more than a little experience...

From the opening notes of "Almost Like Being In Love" from Brigadoon, D'Ambrosio's rich tenor caresses each song in an embrace - sometimes tender, sometimes humorous, but always passionate - that he does not relinquish until his final bow.

It is inevitable that an audience favorite, and nightly top vote-getter, will be D'Ambrosio's most well-known role, The Phantom of the Opera, which he performed here for a record-breaking five years. He's played the role more than any other actor to date and, in an expertly arranged sequence, he demonstrates why he is probably the best. Without benefit of prosthetic makeup, swirling fog or a crashing chandelier, D'Ambrosio delivers a masterful and very theatrical presentation of song snippets from the show leading into an extraordinary and astonishingly affecting rendering of "The Music of the Night." If it never worked for you before, suddenly the long-lived and oft-derided show makes sense. The yearning, the passion, the pain are all there on D'Ambrosio's unadorned face and the monster becomes man...one with whom you empathize. It is a master class performance. Most of the songs he performs are available on his two excellent CDs - "Franc D'Ambrosio's Broadway" and "Franc D'Ambrosio's Hollywood." Enjoyable as these recordings are - and they are very enjoyable - they are no substitute for the live experience. So get yourself to Silo's for the exceptional treat of an incredibly classy and gifted performer in an intimate, up close setting.

Jackie Greene @ Uptown Theatre | In 2013, Greene joined the reunited Black Crowes as lead guitarist on their worldwide tour, and the following year released the self-titled debut album of supergroup Trigger Hippy, which Greene is a member of along with Joan Osborne and Crowes drummer Steve Gorman. Greene continues to be a frequent member of Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh’s touring ensemble Phil Lesh & Friends, for which he has contributed lead guitar and vocals since 2007. Greene also toured as part of WRG, an acoustic trio with the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir and Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, and he performed with Levon Helm as part of Helm’s fabled Midnight Ramble shows.

The musical passion and creative integrity that drive Back to Birth, his latest album, have been constants in Jackie Greene’s musical life from the start. While growing up in Northern California, he taught himself to play piano and guitar. His musical reference points shifted radically when, at the age of 14, he ran across a cache of his parents’ vintage rock, country, blues and R&B LPs in the family’s basement.

Still in his teens and inspired by his discoveries, Greene began writing songs and performing them at a local coffeehouse while recording his compositions in his makeshift garage studio and burning CDRs to sell at his gigs. He saved the money he made selling those discs to fund his debut album, the self-produced, self-released Rusty Nails. Despite being a D.I.Y. release with minimal promotion, the disc received substantial regional attention from fans and press alike.

His popularity led to a deal with a local independent label, which released his second album, Gone Wanderin’, in late 2002. The disc won considerable national attention, leading to a series of national tours opening for the likes of B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Susan Tedeschi, Huey Lewis, Mark Knopfler and Taj Mahal.

Greene continued to win critical acclaim and expand his fan base with 2004’s Sweet Somewhere Bound and 2006’s American Myth. In 2007, Greene began moonlighting with Phil Lesh and Friends, while continuing his own musical evolution with his own releases Giving Up the Ghost and Till the Light Comes, released in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

“The musicians that I really admire and try to emulate are the ones who have the whole package: they’re great songwriters, great singers and great instrumentalists, and they have a vibe about them that’s real,” he states, adding, “When I go to make a record, I’m not thinking about where I can fit in a bunch of guitar solos. I’m thinking, ‘What does this song feel like? What’s it saying?’ So my goal, when writing a song or making a record, is to find the core of that emotional experience and convey that.”

Although he’s already racked up a multitude of impressive musical achievements, Greene isn’t one to look back. Instead, he continues to look to the future – and looks forward to getting back on the road to bring Back to Birth’s soulful songcraft to the loyal, wildly diverse fan base that he’s built through talent, vision and hard work.

Bob Castell Blanch @ Uva Trattoria | Bob Castell-Blanch has worked as a professional guitarist for over twenty-five years throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. The electric and acoustic guitar along with a computerized soundtrack is at the heart of the music he performs. He uses the latest technologies to record and mix these sound tracks to a computer format, which he plays back through a small sound system during performances. This results in giving the live performance a quality rivaling anything played on the "smooth jazz" radio channels today.

His style of music ranges from light jazz to standard jazz to R&B by artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, George Benson, Carlos Santana, the Rippingtons, Sting, Toni Braxton, The Yellow Jackets, Whitney Houston, Miles Davis, Earth Wind & Fire, plus some of his own original material. He successfully blends his electric and acoustic guitars to create an atmosphere that is pleasing to audiences ranging from a cocktail environment and extending to that of a concert setting. Bob Castell-Blanch has recorded and performed with such artist as Narada Michael Walden, Sister Sledge, Stacy Lattisaw, Pete Escovedo, Sheila E., Carl Carlton, Ammi Stewart, Wayne Wallace, The PHDS and many others. He currently is actively involved in production work and song writing in his recording studio at his home as well as performing live throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Johnny Smith Live @ River Terrace Inn |

Join us for our live music series on the patio over-looking the Napa River and featuring some of the area's top talent.Johnny’s maturity as a musician is realized as his sultry, soulful voice weaves throughout songs reminiscent of sophisticated blues melded with upbeat rock tempos.

Artist Johnny Smith was born in Long Beach California in 1962. He began his musical life at a very young age. Born into a musical family, Johnny’s mother nurtured his vocal talents while his uncle and aunt, well known music icons Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett, provided musical mentoring and advice. But it was a televised performance of Elvis playing “Hound Dog” that truly inspired the 9 year old Smith to pick up the guitar and pursue a life of performance and by the age of 10, he was regularly invited to perform on stage with local professional musicians. Johnny eventually relocated to San Francisco and formed Alias Smith, a roots/rock influenced band which took first prize in a regional Battle of the Bands competition. Alias Smith’s debut CD by the same name garnered much praise, and helped the band to secure an 18 date tour throughout Sweden and Finland as well as stage performances alongside such reputable artists as The Beach Boys, Starship, Maria Muldaur, and Roger McGuinn to name a few.

Wishing to further his musical vision, Mr. Smith became a solo artist and released the album “Just a Man”. Johnny’s maturity as a musician is realized as his sultry, soulful voice weaves throughout songs reminiscent of sophisticated blues melded with upbeat rock tempos. The hit “Love Is like a Rock” became #1 on radio request lines, and the song “Fortune Teller” received honourable mention in the Napa Valley Music Festival Song Writers Competition. Johnny has won best performer 3 of 3 times at the Northern California Songwriters Association competition, and is a regular on live television and radio broadcasts. Through all of his successes, Smith has never lost “touch” with his roots and still performs on the original Martin D-35 that he’s been playing since age 12.

Johnny's Aunt Bonnie Bramlett co-wrote and performs , along with Johnny's cousin Bekka Bramlett, on "Never Even Thought About It", track number 5 on the 2009 album "Gentlemen X".

Steve Della Maggiora- Guitarist from Napa, California. Raised in the 50s and 60s, he absorbed not only songs his parents loved from the Big Band era (and Lawrence Welk Show) but also pop tune from the blossoming Top 40 Radio world. Both his parents were singers, and he was raised in a house full of music. Several years of accordion lessons left their mark, as did the bands he saw on the Ed Sullivan Show and American Bandstand. After high school he devoted himself to learning the guitar and bass, and began transferring his accordion skills to piano and organ (a process that is still ongoing today.)

Steve is a multi-instrumental, multi-talented musician. He plays guitar, bass guitar, piano, organ, and, when his arm heals up, accordion. He sometimes plays solo. He sometimes accompanies singers, in a variety of styles, especially melodic tunes from before the 20s and 30s right up through the 60s and 70s. (But he's pretty shaky on the more modern recent stuff!) Steve plays with a variety of groups: bass in a pop-folk-novelty duo; guitar with a classical and jazz violinist; organ, bass or guitar with a fine rock band; organ with an electric blues band; accordion, keyboards, guitar and sings with an Americana-Rock-Folk ensemble; plays guitar and sings with a blues/bluegrass/Django-ish quartet; plays guitar or accordion with a Mexican-American dance group; and guitar with a highly skilled Cool Jazz Octet. All of these groups play in the North Bay Area, as we call the counties to the north of San Francisco.

Often Steve seems happiest sitting with his guitar (acoustic or electric) and playing whatever you want to hear. If you'd like him to accompany you, he has a list of well over 1000 tunes he can play. (And the list seems to be getting longer every day!)

An Evening with Todd Rundgren @ The Uptown | A Wizard, A True Star. The title of Todd Rundgren’s 1973 solo album aptly sums up the contributions of this multi-faceted artist to state-of-the-art music. As a songwriter, video pioneer, producer, recording artist, computer software developer, conceptualist, and, most recently, interactive artist, Rundgren has made a lasting impact on both the form and content of popular music.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Rundgren began playing guitar as a teenager, going on to found and front The Nazz, the quintessential `60’s cult group. In 1969, he left the band to pursue a solo career, recording his debut offering, the legendary Runt. But it was 1972’s seminal Something/Anything?, on which he played all the instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that catapulted Todd into the superstar limelight, prompting the press to unanimously dub him ‘Rock’s New Wunderkind’. It was followed by such landmark LPs as The Hermit of Mink Hollow and the above mentioned A Wizard, A True Star, as well as such hit singles as I Saw The Light, Hello It’s Me, Can We Still Be Friends, and Bang The Drum.

Rundgren has also achieved acclaim as a producer — His myriad production projects include albums by Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, Psychedelic Furs, Meatloaf, XTC, Grand Funk Railroad, and Hall And

Tom Duarte @ Uva Trattoria | Jazz, Latin, Flamenco!

Duarte's musical style is firmly based in traditional Latin music, while referencing elements of funk and jazz fusion.
